With such limited space on my phone’s home screen, I am definitely picky about what apps make the cut… and with such love for music, I have to be careful not to litter my phone with the latest music apps. So many apps are coming out everyday and I often find my phone in a state of “app overload”, without enough memory for other things like Instagram or Pinterest. Like many people in my generation, my cell phone plays a major role in my life, and I often find myself using it not just for music, but for daily blogging inspiration too. It is because of this that I am very picky on what I allow on my home screen. Lesson: fewer, higher quality apps maintain the balance.
I have come up with a list of my three most commonly used Fashion apps. I chose these for both the great user experience, and the incredible fashion inspiration they offer.
1) Gilt
2) Net-a-Porter / Mr. Porter
While Gilt Group and Mr. & Ms. Porter are classic shopping apps, these companies style their models impeccably; and I often look to these professional stylists when seeking inspiration (and great deals). On top of their great fashion sense, both companies often feature tech and wearables alongside the fashion offerings, which is both refreshing and exciting to see what’s coming up next.
3) NYT App – Fashion and Style Section
Since high fashion trends turn around as quickly as software updates, I use the Style section in the NYT (New York Times) app to keep up with the conversations happening in fashion-tech fields.
These 3 apps and accompanying websites have been around for a while, and for good reason. The user experience is seamless – which I attribute to 3 qualities: simple, predictable, and repetitive. Until I find another fashion app, which inspires me with predictably quality design, I’ll stick to these (as well as my favorite blogs)!
When it comes to new app inspiration, I’m always looking out for companies and individuals that present opportunities to monetize the new styles I showcase. Two new apps on this horizon that I’m really excited about are these:
1) Cosign
Cosign is one of the first fashion apps that pays users to post their favorite styles. This hasn’t been released yet but will be available later this year.
2) Fashion Tap
Fashion Tap is an app by my friend and fellow blogger, Amy Roiland. She just launched and the app features the tagline: “make money from sharing and tagging the brands and products that you already love”.
Within the style blogging community it’s important to listen to expert advice – not to get over-stimulated with a surplus of apps that come out daily, and to learn smart marketing strategies as our personal brands evolve.
