When it comes to reading, I prefer autobiographies over everything else. There’s nothing more thrilling than reading a documented exposition of someone you admire from his or her point of view. Brad Goreski is a celebrity fashion stylist and a reality TV personality. Most might recognize him from working with Rachel Zoe and his show on Bravo, “It’s a Brad, Brad world”. I personally admire Brad for his daring way of dressing, featuring his signature bow ties, dimensional suits, and colorful personality. I have always found him to be very delightful, sincere, and positively comical so when I discovered his release plans for “Born to be Brad” back in 2012, I knew it was going to feature all of his characteristics. I had to have it.In the book, Brad addresses his childhood fascination with Marilyn Monroe, his addiction to cocaine, aspirations of being an actor, personal relationships, the reason he was blacklisted at Conde Nast, working at Vogue, and working with Rachel Zoe and Terry Richardson.
What I admire the most about this book is Brad’s pure truthfulness even with the not so glamorous events that have taken place in his life. “Born to be Brad” does not come off as a dishonorable tell-all celebrity book; instead, it is a story of creativity, imagination, and inspiration. It carries the moral of being yourself and believing in the passion for your craft. It took me about two days to finish the book because the engaging and very relatable domination of the book is absolutely outstanding. It is heavily thought provoking and astonishing to see how an unsettled, overweight youngster with a drug problem transfigured into an accomplished and humble, first rate gentleman.
If you are in need of fashion and lifestyle tips, a few laughs, industry advice, or inspiration, this book is for you.
“When you hear fear knocking on the door, most of the time when you answer it there’s nothing there. It’s just you holding yourself back.” – Brad Goreski
