If you are into fashion, I am sure by now you might have heard the term “Normcore”. What is it then? How does it impact your wardrobe choice?
According to Wikipedia and The Guardian, Normcore is the combination of “normal” and “hardcore”. By definition, it is the fashion trend of wearing everyday work horse clothes versus runway fashion — think sweatshirt, distressed jeans, and athletic trainers.
So you want to rock the Normcore looks but you don’t want to exchange your fashionista title for soccer mom because they also wear hoodies and sneakers, what should you do? Here is my quick cheat sheet of “core” items you should get and ways to style them:
Core Item One: Big Sweatshirt / Sweater
Focus on “big”. Oversize is the way to go and cute prints and sayings help but are not necessary. Wear them with skinnies or short skirts.
(Pictured Above: Zara High Neck Sweater – $79.90. Similar alternatives: Glamorous Turtleneck Sweater – $153 and Nastygal Anna Turtleneck Sweater – $78)
Core Item Two: Distressed Denim
One word, busted. No matter what shape, wash, and waist height your jeans are, they need to have slashes and holes in them.
(Pictured Above: One Teaspoon Freebird Jeans – $147, Bella Dhal shirt – $128, Zara sweater – $80, Miu Miu sneakers – $490. Similar Alternatives: Blank Denim Distressed Boyfriend Jeans – $128 and Target High Waist Destructed Skinny Jeans Vanilla Star – $29.99)
Core Item Three: Sneakers
This is probably the best fashion news this fall but not all sneakers are equal. Of course it would be super cool if you could rock a pair of Valentino’s or Chanel, but a starchy white pair of Stan Smith’s by Adidas will do just fine. The best way to style them is to wear with everything except real sports clothing.
(Pictured Above: Miu Miu Metal Cap Toe Skate Sneaker – $490. Similar Alternatives: Adidas Stan Smith Sneaker – $89.95 and Vans ‘Classic’ Snake-Print Slip-On Sneaker – $54.95)
Core Item Four: Blanket Scarf
A scarf is always a must during colder months. This year, make it thick, wide, and geometric.
(Pictured Above: Maison Scotch Wool Checked Scarf – $94.75. Similar Alternatives: Topshop Hooded Banket Print Wrap – $44 and Kate Spade New York Plaid Blanket Scarf – $128)
Core Item Five: Wool Fedora
The 1930’s jazz musician favorite is now a symbol of coolness. It’s no wonder why some bloggers seem to have one glued to their heads. Get one that fits your face shape and wear it to death.
