It is that time of the season where most shoppers soak in the idea of an occasion solely based on the swift scrapping of merchandise at minimized prices for a particular period of time. There is nothing wrong with this. However, I find that most people sometimes lose themselves in the idea and exhilaration of saving money by procuring more materials for a lesser price instead of getting what they actually need.
I used to be one of those people. During my days in high school, I always thought that I needed more of everything to show my wide taste and variety in fashion. I always wanted a full packed closet all in the name of options, which should not have been a problem except that it was. I was actually limiting my wardrobe as it pertained to variety and versatility. I found out that every time I went sale shopping, I bought pieces in separates according to how fashionable I thought they were. I was not thinking about the main objective of fashion, which is buying a piece and thinking about the possibility of styling options that could make it a signature piece. I discovered I had all these interesting pieces in my closet with no correct addition to style them with. For example, I would splurge on a ton of shirts and by the time I would think to get bottoms or accessories to possibly match with, I’d be out of money.
This is about an individual’s perspective on personal style versus needs and wants. So, in the motivating force of remaining practical and well balanced during the sales period, here are three important tips to help you focus before paying out:
1. Make sure the piece you purchase is about you. Sometimes, because of the excitement of a lowered price on a particular good especially in fashion, we second-guess ourselves. Sometimes, we look to magazines and blogs for guidance and think, “Maybe I could just experiment and try a new style. I saw this on the blogs. Maybe I should just try it out.” which works out sometimes. But generally, whatever you do, make sure it’s well fitting for you, as you could be a walking billboard/trendsetter.
2. How many contrasting ways can you wear the particular piece? Include pieces in your wardrobe and if the answer more than three, then keep it. If you already have something that is similar to the piece in your closet, you might want to reconsider and branch out of your comfort zone.
3. Splurging can be so much fun. I am very guilty of it but if you are thinking of buying a piece, you want to reassure yourself that you would buy it even if it was not on sale. You do not want to alter your taste and quality.
