When it comes to wearing a scarf during the winter season, I’ve heard many people say they can never seem to find the perfect one for them. Sometimes it’s the style that you are after, and a thin merino wool scarf works wonders; but when it gets incredibly cold, a knitted one will become your new best friend!
The good thing about scarves is that they are long enough to be able to style them in different ways (and believe me, there are plenty of ways to wear them). My favourite (way to wear it) is draping around the neck and letting one end fall gracefully down the shoulder. It’s super elegant and it looks great on any coat! Another similar way is by folding it in half and letting it sit on the back of your neck. This will achieve a very mature and refined look.
The scarf is, by far, the most popular winter accessory and is available in thousands of different colours, fabrics, washes, and patterns (please avoid long fringes and embellished features that tend to distract from the whole look). If it’s particularly cold, I enjoy wearing a thick cable-knit scarf, however a silk one will add layers and texture to my outfit during the spring. While the scarf is THE classic winter garment, the snood has recently stepped into the scene; first seen and made popular by Burberry on the catwalk in 2009, it has since become the ultimate alternative to the classic.
But what is it? The snood is a tubular garment joined together and has extra fabric that will cover and keep your neck-ear-head area warm. It is extremely effective at lower temperatures and has a loose fit for comfort. The snood is usually made of thick knit wool, but can be found in different colours, styles, and patterns. The fact that it’s so fashion-forward and yet useful for this A/W season, it makes it a winter winner for me! (Read on to Craig of ThatDapperChap‘s “Gentlemen’s Guide to Accessories” for more tips!)
