It’s a normal behavior for men to wear their well-tailored suits with sneakers these days. Although we have seen celebrities like Kanye West, Dwayne Wade, Robert Downey Jr and more support the trend by wearing it out to major events around the world. The movement has become such a huge controversial talking point amongst style enthusiasts. Some love it, some hate it, and some are in between. There are a lot of opinions regarding it and I am going to give you mine. When I saw the trend in motion for the first time on social media websites and magazines about two years ago, I immediately thought it was an abomination. Not because it looked off but because I was so used to seeing everyone well dressed with the traditional lace up dress shoes. It was something different and I was not used to it so I knocked down the trend.
Fast forward to today, I have not participated in the trend yet but I really do not mind it now. The combination is everything that fashion should be; very cool and out of the box. When it comes to the age bracket for those who are supposed to take part in this trend, I say ages 1-25. Usually, I am all for individuality and trying to make something your own but there is just something about an older guy from ages 30 and above trying to work their way into a trend. Something about it comes off unserious and childlike and I am sure most people will back me up when I say there’s nothing worse than an older guy trying to look up–to-the-minute by something particularly popular like wearing sneakers.
If you are going to wear sneakers with a suit, make sure the design of the sneakers are not too flamboyant because you do not want to distract from the well tailored suit or else the whole ensemble will be busy (too much going on). The key is making sure that all the colors are complimenting the suit. Otherwise, sloppiness prevails.
